Dead Men Are Heavier Than Broken Hearts | 2011

Drawing from a variety of representations and recordings of disasters and human tragedy, Vogel examines the power of images and the futility of our attempts to measure and prevent the worst of our fears through technological inventions. Black Box recordings of plane crashes, seismographic drawings of earth quakes and military maps of major battles are transformed into abstractions that are beautiful and terrifying at the same time. In a larger context these images also question the possibility of translating human emotions into visual form.
