Introduction to Visual Experience

Hunter College

A beginning hands-on introduction to the process of art making. Students will learn about a variety of tools, techniques, and concepts behind the production of art including the principles and elements of design, basic drawing and collage skills, and approaches towards developing concepts in art. The curriculum in this class emphasizes an integrated and creative approach to art, including but not limited to detailed instruction and practice in the technical aspects of production. It is designed to give students a firm grounding in the tools, techniques, and ways of thinking necessary in advanced art courses with an emphasize on drawing and collage techniques. The course will also include discussion of contemporary issues related to art, such as appropriation, political art and personal narratives. - SYLLABUS
